Before joining Microsoft Margaret-Ann worked with a number of public and private sector organizations as a sustainability consultant and also provided carbon origination, advisory, risk management and procurement services to compliance entities with carbon exposure in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. Margaret-Ann has over twenty years of experience in financial markets trading at a number of leading brokerage firms in bonds, interest rate swaps & options and credit default swaps. She holds a MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics and is a Fellow at the Royal Geographical Society.

CCX was the world’s first integrated cap-and-trade system covering all six gases, operating globally, with affiliates and members worldwide, and also launched the Tianjin Climate Exchange (TCX), China’s first pilot carbon market. DiPerna served also as President of the Joyce Foundation and as a writer and Vice President for International Affairs for The Cousteau Society. She has been involved in the European Commission’s work on emissions trading since 2008. In particular, she was involved in the development and legislative process for the Market Stability Reserve and preparation of the review of the ETS for phase 4 (2021-2030). Since 2019, her work has focused on reviewing the ETS to deliver on the targets agreed in the European Climate Law, including a new ETS for buildings and road transport. She recently engaged in the monitoring of the EU compliance carbon market and participated in the elaboration of ESMA’s reports on the European carbon market, mandated by the European Commission in Fall 2021. When joining ESMA in 2012, she first worked on the implementation of the EU regulation on OTC derivatives (EMIR), focusing on defining the first clearing obligations in the EU. Before joining ESMA, she worked for 10 years as a quantitative analysis and risk manager for several investment management companies. Johan Börje has more than 30 years’ experience in international relations, technology, sustainability, circular economy and energy. At Stockholm Exergi he played a key role in the company’s successful application to the first round of grants from the EU Innovation Fund, responsible for the sections on market potential, sales approach and funding of the project. Today, he leads the work to secure the additional funding for the company’s BECCS project, with particular focus on the Voluntary Carbon Market and its demand for carbon removal with permanent storage. In addition to engaging with corporation looking to acquire technical negative emissions to become net-zero, Johan is directly involved in policy work related to climate accounting and the mechanisms for certification of carbon removals. He is also the company’s representative at the Negative Emissions Platform. His presentation will high-light the key challenges facing the much-desired volume deployment of negative emissions with permanent storage.

Michael Schneider is an aviation professional with 20+ years of experience in finance, environment, and sustainability. He currently holds the position of assistant director within the IATA environment & sustainability division based in Geneva Switzerland. During his career Michael developed complex business intelligence solutions and occupied a leading role in the global implementation and roll-out of electronic ticketing that led to a paperless industry. In 2012 he implemented IATAs Fuel Reporting & Emissions Database (FRED), tracking the aviation sectors fuel efficiency improvements and CO¬2 emissions reductions. In past years he has been closely participating in ICAOs expert groups to help define the technical requirements for the first global and sectoral carbon offset and reduction scheme for international aviation, better known as CORSIA. Since then, he has been driving several high-profile projects linked to the development of environmental reporting and compliance systems to assist airlines in meeting their mandatory or voluntary offset obligations. He conceptualized and successfully implemented the FRED+ emissions reporting system, enabling the pairing and data exchange between aircraft operators, state administering authorities, and independent verifiers under CORSIA. He is also the founding architect of ACE – the Aviation Carbon Exchange, an environmental commodity exchange for aviation stakeholders to trade CORSIA eligible and voluntary carbon offsets. Michael holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in International Finance and Banking from the International University in Geneva and holds a diploma in International Business and Marketing from Michigan State University.
