Frank has worked in specialities — bitumen and sulphur — for more than 20 years. He has worked in various roles and has led the European Technical team at Shell since 2011. During this time he has been a presenter at numerous national and international conferences and published articles about how to reuse asphalt, how to decrease asphalt temperature during manufacturing, transporting and paving, heavy duty asphalt pavements, polymer-modified bitumen, Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen, coloured asphalt and so on. As part of his role Frank is actively shaping Shell’s global research and development programme and implementing it into local markets. Frank is not only a member of the technical committee of Eurobitume — the European Bitumen association — but also of several research groups in Europe.

At Reuters, Keyvan reported on physical and swaps markets for the full spectrum of oil products, and led a team of products reporters. He previously reported on the petrochemicals and oil products markets at the London office of Dow Jones

With its six-plant expansion plan, BITUMENA aims to become the regional leader in value-added bituminous products for the road and waterproofing industries. Dhruv has a degree in economics from Canada’s Laurentian University.

Charles Nyagah is a Bitumen Commodity Broker with Cinergy, involved in advising Traders on servicing the road construction industry in the east Africa region. Dealing with imports, logistics, distribution, risk and tight liquidities in this business since 2007 has given Charles an insight into the nature of the market. Charles previously worked for Total in downstream activities that included commercial, distribution and SHE from 1998 until 2006. Charles is now tasked with looking into the viability of a bulk bitumen terminal in the region.

Dharamveer specialises in the performance of modified and unmodified bitumen and bituminous mixes, pavement maintenance and preservation techniques. He has published over 100 papers, presented research at conferences all over the world and been invited by private and state-run agencies and institutions to lecture on specific topics and train engineers. Dharamveer is an Associate Editor at Springer Publishing and an editorial board member at the International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology. He has served as a consultant for India’s Public Works Department, city and municipal corporations and many private-sector firms involved in road construction, providing forensic investigation of road failures, designs and quality control. Dharamveer obtained his PhD, specialising in pavement materials and construction, from the University of Oklahoma in the US.

In 2016, he oversaw the sale of interests in three toll roads in southern Africa by one of AIIM’s funds. Prior to joining AIIM, Ed was an Executive Director at Standard Chartered Bank, where he completed a range of project finance and advisory assignments in emerging markets. He was previously employed by Deloitte as a Consulting Actuary to a number of European financial services groups. Ed represents AIIM as a Director at African Ports and Corridors Holdings and DSM Corridor Group.

Sunil Kumar Verma has four decades of experience in highway and bridge engineering and project management. He is currently Additional Director General/Chief Engineer at India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways . Sunil has a proven track record in evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria in designing infrastructure projects. He is a strong team leader with excellent analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. His experience covers planning, monitoring and supervising construction activities, site supervision, and quality assurance plans, quality management and control, material management and contract execution of major roads, highways and cable-stayed and long bridges. In different projects he has been responsible for resource planning and resources mobilisation, allocation and procurement, project planning and management, quality assurance and quality control, contract management following FIDIC guidelines, training and technology transfer, co-ordination between client and contractor, and managing safety regulations and environmental conditions on site. He possesses extensive knowledge about the existing pavement evaluation and geometric standards, and flexible and rigid pavement construction. He has dealt with conditions of the contract and the latest construction methodology on projects financed by World Bank, ADB and JBIC/JICA grants. He is hands-on with preparation specifications, road codes and knowledge on the latest equipment and construction techniques, and road safety auditing.
